Webinar: Getting Back To Basics – A Resource Toolkit From The Department of Labor

This session will provide information to employers, economic development and workforce partners who have employees transitioning back to work after being closed due to COVID-19. The agenda is as follows: Work Sharing Program Work Sharing provides an alternative to layoffs for employers faced with a temporary, non-cyclical decline in business due to lower economic activity. Work Sharing avoids layoffs by preserving jobs for current employees, and in the context of reopening businesses closed by COVID-19, it can also serve as a means of bringing back temporarily laid-off employees. Returning to Work In normal times, the intent of the unemployment insurance program is to assist people during periods of unemployment when suitable work is not available. During the current COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Department of Labor encourages flexibility to effectively comply with government social distancing recommendations and to mitigate the spread of the virus. In response, the Department of Unemployment Insurance enacted emergency regulations, which, among other things, altered the definition of suitable work. The regulations, which are effective from March 16 to June 14, 2020, state at 403 CMR 22.05: Recruitment Assistance Let the dedicated professionals at Maryland’s American Job Centers help you find the job or the employee you want.
